Paris Hilton's sentence starts

Paris Hilton handed herself in to Los Angeles County jail late last night (03.06.07) to begin her prison sentence.
The hotel heiress will serve 23 days for driving with a suspended licence, which was reduced for good behaviour after she attended a court hearing.
Paris said in astatement released by her lawyer Richard A. Hutton at 11.20pm: "I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realise I made some mistakes.
"This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
Before handing herself in to the authorities Paris made a brief appearance at Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards.
Her 'pink' carpet appearance followed a busy weekend of partying to mark her last days of freedom.
On Thursday (31.05.07), Paris and sister Nicky attended a promotional party for Blackberry at Los Angeles' Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where she was "laughing and living it up". The sisters then made a brief appearance at a pre-MTV party at a Beverly Hills mansion.
On Friday night (01.06.07), Paris was seen at Hollywood nightclub Les Deux with Nicky and Nicky's boyfriend David Katzenberg.
On Saturday (02.06.07) Paris was chauffeured from her home in a black stretch limo to a nearby Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, where she ordered an iced latte, and went straight home.
Earlier that evening, Paris and Nicky joined their mother Kathy at her 30-year University High School reunion at Santa Monica's Hotel Sheraton Delfina and then the family had dinner at Hollywood eatery Mr. Chow.
Kathy went home at midnight and Paris and her sister joined David Katsenberg at popular nightclub Teddy's, before moving on to Area.
Sheriff Lee Baca who runs California's Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, where Paris is serving her time, stated authorities must not allow the socialite to "be seen in handcuffs or in the back of a police car, forlorn and in handcuffs" on her way to prison.
He said: "Jails are not circuses and not places where 'fun' is the priority. Jail should be a corrective learning experience."
